Interposition Arthroplasty

If you’re experiencing elbow pain and limited range of motion, you may be a candidate for elbow interposition arthroplasty. This procedure is used to treat severe arthritis or traumatic injuries that have caused damage to the elbow joint.

During elbow interposition arthroplasty, the damaged or arthritic joint surfaces are removed and replaced with a soft tissue graft, such as a tendon from another part of the body. This graft acts as a cushion between the bones of the joint, reducing pain and restoring mobility.

Compared to elbow replacement, elbow interposition arthroplasty is a bone-preserving procedure that does not require removal of the entire joint. This can result in faster recovery times and better preservation of natural joint function.

After the procedure, physical therapy may be recommended to help improve strength and range of motion in the affected elbow. It’s important to follow your healthcare provider’s instructions for recovery and rehabilitation to ensure the best possible outcomes.

If you’re considering elbow interposition arthroplasty, it’s important to find a skilled and experienced surgeon who specializes in this type of procedure. Dr. Lovy has years of experience performing elbow interposition arthroplasty and we’re committed to helping our patients achieve the best possible outcomes.
